ドイツのブラックメタルバンド Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult の 1st『Follow the Calls for Battle』をレビュー。2001年リリース。
ポーランド人女性がボーカルとギターを務める4人組ブラックメタルバンド。初期 Mayhem や Immortal、Marduk、Negator に通じる激速ブラックメタル。
8曲30分ちょいをほぼブラストで突っ走り切る。だからと言って、勿論爽やかさは皆無。祟り殺されそうな狂声を激烈突貫リズムに載せて蹂躙し尽くす真っ当なブラックメタル。重厚で明瞭な音質だがアンダーグラウンドな空気が充満していて心地良い。
Marduk の様に無慈悲な感じではなく激烈だが耳触りが良く繰り返し聴いても疲れない音は魅力的。やや円やかなギター音で仄かに哀感を漂わすトレモロリフが素晴らしい。古き良き北欧ブラックメタルの地下世界音が息付く傑作。
