スウェーデンのデスメタルバンド At the Gates の 2nd『With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness』をレビュー。1993年リリース。レビューするのは 1st『The Red In The Sky Is Ours』との 2 in 1CDで再発されたお得な1995年 Peaceville 盤。
内容は前作 1st とほぼ同じ。曲展開は相変わらずの目まぐるしさ。絡み合うようにそれぞれ旋律を紡ぐ2本のギターは更に複雑さを増した気がする。前作より低音が補填されずっしり感が3割増しといった感じ。ストップ & ゴーの多い曲展開のため一概には言えないのだが前作の方が速度感があるように思う。殆ど忘れかけていたがバイオリンが消えた。
前作と似た作品ではあるがあまりに混沌とした魔術的な曲構成に本作は少し疲れる。わかりやすい刺激度は前作の方が高い。増した重量感以上に精神的に重く感じる作品である。
#7. "Stardrowned"、#11. "Through the Red" あたりのデスメタリックな刻みで獰猛さを出す曲はやはりカッコ良い。前作が好みであれば本作も合わせてどうぞ。
