コロンビアのブラックメタルバンド Inquisition の 5th『Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm』をレビュー。2010年リリース。レビューするのは2011年の Hells Headbangers Records 盤。
嫌がらせじゃないかと思う程のタイトルの長さはさておき密教臭や音の畝りが初期作の不気味さを思い出させてくれる 5th フルアルバム。澱んだ深淵に引きづり込まれるような曲が並ぶ前半は1st『Into The Infernal Regions Of The Ancient Cult』、2nd『Invoking The Majestic Throne Of Satan』期の作風にかなり近い音。
久しぶりに登場するクリーントーンの調べや女性の罵り声にハッとさせられる。初期作の徹底した陰鬱音が好きな方には堪らない展開だろう。音が分厚さを増しており激烈疾走パートと沈鬱スローパートの落差が大きい。
後半には北欧ブラックメタル風のメロディのあるリフやスラッシュメタルパートなど新しい試みも見られる。それらがこのバンドの異端性を阻害しない程度に導入されているのがミソ。異端が正統を呑み込みその領域を広げ始めた快作。
